Patrick Roy made a successful debut as an NHL head coach, as his Colorado Avalanche took down the Anaheim Ducks 6-1.

Apparently that was not enough for Roy, as late in the game, he got into it through the bench-dividing glass, maniacally going after the opposing coach, Bruce Boudreau. The fiery Roy was not just a smashing hit on the bench, but against the divider, late Wednesday night:

And this was after a win!

The skirmish will certainly overlook the performance of goalie, Semyon Varlamov, who started his season out just missing a shutout.  As well, the number 1 overall pick of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, 18-year old Nathan MacKinnon, had two assists in his own debut.

Only day one of the Patrick Roy era, and it is off to exciting start.

You may want to check off December 8th.  It will be a battle of two hot heads as Roy’s Avalanche will go against the Vancouver Canucks and new coach, John Tortorella.

  1. One of the reasons he was so pissed was because the Ducks had an illegal (dirty) hit on #1 draft pick Nathan MacKinnon that wasn’t called.
