The Jets and the Steady But Uninspiring Need for Chris Johnson

Chris-Johnson-Titans-jets

Much of the Jets focus this off-season has been finding ways to surround Geno Smith (and now, Mike Vick) with playmakers for the passing game.

But in a switch of thought process, the last few weeks of rumors have surrounded not a wide receiver or tight end, but a running back.

That RB is former Tennessee Titans speedster, Chris Johnson. Continue reading

The Time Is Now For the Jets To Extend Rex Ryan’s Contract

rex_ryan_jets_saints_nfl_1

The New York Jets enter the Bye Week at 5-4, a record inconceivable to even the most optimistic of fans before this season.  The season has been up and down, something that could be predicted with an inconsistent rookie quarterback, but they have several wins over preseason Super Bowl favorites, such as the Falcons, Patriots, and Saints.

And while we too cannot predict how this consistently random season of win-loss-win-loss-win-loss-win-loss-win will go, we should all know one thing: It’s time to make it official and lock up Rex Ryan long term. Continue reading

New York Jets 2013 Season Preview: It’s Going To Get Worse Before It Gets Better

JetsPreviewCoverRex

The Jets enter the 2013 in a weird place.  It is both a known rebuilding year and a make or break year for head coach Rex Ryan.

A weird premise for a new general manager to enter the picture, start a rebuild of a team, and keep the previous regime’s coach, but that was the decision Woody Johnson and his new GM made.  So Ryan enters this year as a lame duck coach, with no clear-cut way of knowing what standard he has to set to keep his job.

As for what we do know – lets take a short look at the personnel before this season begins and then take a guess at how this season will go. Continue reading

Could Rex Ryan’s Job Be In Jeopardy for Playing Mark Sanchez?

rex-ryan-presser-jets

The Jets had finally found out who their quarterback was.

After a long, drawn out competition throughout training camp and the preseason, Geno Smith had finally fallen behind Mark Sanchez Saturday night against the Giants, letting the incumbent maintain control of the Jets job for now.

And then Rex Ryan threw everything into flux, including, quite possibly, his job. Continue reading

Will The Jets Just Hand Geno Smith The Starting Job Because He’s Not Mark Sanchez?

geno-smith-mark-sanchez-preseason-jets

It is far from a shock that Mark Sanchez is not the popular pick at QB for the New York Jets.

But if a report in the New York Daily News is true, the Jets are ready to give Geno Smith the starting job – not for any exceptional game play, but with the mere accomplishment of not stumbling in his next preseason game. Continue reading
